The Merlot Cab Franc from Woolies
Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007Had a few glasses of Woolies Longmarket Merlot Cabernet Franc 2005 from Simonsvlei last night and it is such a treat. Forthcoming, spicy and peppery, with black fruit and mulberry aromas and flavours, it is a fantastic buy for R29. Medium-bodied with soft tannins so can be enjoyed immediately or up to 2 years. It’s delicious.
Cabernet Franc is a varietal that we don’t always see or hear about that often in South Africa, and it is traditionally blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in Bordeux style wines.
