Generous new Dalla Cia vintages released

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Giorgio and George Dalla Cia, the passionate father-and-son wine and grappa making duo, have just released their first 2007 wines from their new premises at Bosman’s Crossing in Stellenbosch.

The 2007 Dalla Cia Sauvignon Blanc is a generous yet refreshing Sauvignon Blanc set apart by its low acidity.

“By minimising total acidity, the wine is slightly less fruity but more complex because of its more natural evolution during fermentation. The result is a wine that is less heavy and much more pleasant to drink,” explains Giorgio.

This superbly well-rounded wine with a gorgeous mouth feel and long, lingering aftertaste, is a true reflection of Giorgio’s own persona. Brimming with gooseberries and asparagus flavours balanced by a pleasant mineral character, the Dalla Cia Sauvignon Blanc 2007 is a refreshing summer wine. Enjoy it on its own or let it bring out the flavours of any seafood and white meat dishes.

The new lightly wooded Dalla Cia Chardonnay 2007 is a fragrant, crisp wine teeming with lemon blossom and a hint of dry figs. Surprisingly opulent on the palate when considering that only 5% of the wine was in contact with French Oak, it has a gentle, long lingering aftertaste.

Reputed for his relentless quest for quality and perfection, Giorgio was the first winemaker in South Africa to replace natural cork in his white wines with a new high-tech Italian designed composite closure to eliminate problems associated with “corkage”. This stylish synthetic cork is an integral part of the design concept for the Dalla Cia white wines.

The 2007 Dalla Cia Sauvignon Blanc vintage sells at leading outlets at around R55.00 per bottle whilst the new 2007 Chardonnay is also available at the same price.

For a truly authentic Italian experience, purchase the wines directly from the Dalla Cia tasting room at Pane e Vino, the new Food and Wine Bar situated next to the Dalla Cia Distillery in Lower Dorp Street at Bosman’s Crossing. As there is no direct access from Dorp Street, visitors need to drive around Oude Libertas into Distillery Street to get to Bosman’s Crossing.
